Electric Motor and Gearbox Repairs

The most common cause of motor burnout and gearbox breakdown is due to insulation breakdown, which is often due to age or moisture. The process of rewinding the motor involves the stripping and replacement of coils. If the correct procedures are followed when rewinding a motor, it will retain its original efficiencies, and in many cases, it will improve its efficiency. Matrix specializes in the repair, rewind and refurbishment of all types of AC/DC electrical machines. This also includes slip ring motors, generator and traction motors, transformers plus brake and clutch coils, magnets and fan units. Matrix also repairs all types of motor gearbox units, which comprise of the complete dismantling and inspection of your unit, replacement of bearings and oil seals.

The manufacture of new shafts and gear wheels and pinions where necessary, Assembly and lubrication and full test of unit.

  • Cooling Tower Driver Repairs
  • Shaft Repairs
  • Install parts such as compressors, motors, condensers, evaporators, air filters, switches and gauges, and copper lines for steam, gas, refrigerant, compressed air, fuel, oil and chilled water
  • Check that the parts are lined up and fit properly
  • Test the unit and make adjustments to ensure that it works correctly
  • Service faulty industrial and household air conditioning units by repairing or replacing faulty parts.

Laser Alignment, Dynamic Balancing and Condition Monitoring

Matrix Laser alignment equipment is one of the top leading brands in the industry. Behind that technology are employees dedicated to providing the best laser alignment service to our customers.

Whether it’s a turbine or a pump unit, our staff has the experience to do the job faster and with better results than almost anyone else in the industry today.

With our vast experience, our technicians can set up the lasers quicker and perform alignment faster than almost anyone offering those services today. Their experience is not just limited to laser systems; they also have extensive experience as machine tool repairmen. This means they will know where to position targets to maximize the correct tolerance of our laser systems and to minimize time-consuming mistakes. They can even help spot machine problems not associated with alignment and calibration – e.g. coupling element damage, poor bearings, and harmonic imbalance.

Our technician are also experts at designing and building fixtures for the majority of alignment applications – e.g. for repairs to soft foot and coupling repair.

Everything that rotates needs to be in a state of balance to ensure smooth running when in operation. Precision balancing is essential to the manufacture of rotating equipment and to the repair and renovation of installed machines. As machine speeds increase, the effects of unbalance become more detrimental. Modern technology allows for accurate balancing to be performed both in the field and in the workshop. Increased time between outages and availability for production is the prime benefit.

Matrix condition monitoring program tracks the change in a machine’s condition allowing routine maintenance to be carried out, preventing emergencies. Included with this service is Matrix’s tailor-made service that allows a very flexible system, which can be tailored to meet the needs of large and small customers.

Removal and Installation of Plant

Removal or installation of mechanical or electrical plant often requires the use of specialist handling equipment and trained personnel.

Matrix can undertake both sensitive and heavy machinery removal and installation.

Plant and Equipment Reclamation

Matrix mechanics assemble, install, service and repair industrial and commercial air conditioning systems in factories, office buildings and hospitals:

  • Selective plating of scored shafts, rams or bearings with metallic coatings.
  • Stress relieving
  • Thermal spaying techniques including wire, powder and electric arc.
  • Welding for the overlay of worn components such as shafts.

Transformers

Matrix has the knowledge to rewind and repair all types of medium voltage, single and three phase control and power transformers including welding, step up and down variations with single or multi-tap connections. Dual and Auto wound, enclosed or open.

Variable Speed Drive Installations

When applied properly, the VSD is the most effective motor controller in the industry today. Modern VSDs are affordable and reliable, have flexibility of control, and offer significant electrical energy savings through greatly reduced electric bills.

They are used in a wide variety of applications for various reasons. For example, they are the most effective energy savers in pump and fan applications; they enhance process operations, particularly where flow control is involved. VSDs provide soft-start capabilities, which decrease electrical stresses and line voltage sags associated with full voltage motor start-ups, especially when driving high-inertia loads.
